Superhero Movie is a 2008 comedy film that spoofs the superhero genre, following in the footsteps of the Scary Movie series of comedies, with which the movie's poster shares a notable resemblance. The film is written and directed by Craig Mazin, and produced by David Zucker and Robert K. Weiss. Production began in September 2007 in New York. It was released on March 28, 2008. The UK release is speculated to be in late May 2008 to Mid June 2008[1]. In Australia the release date was April 10 and it is rated M for moderate sexual references, and infrequent moderate coarse language.

The film opens with Rick Riker (Drake Bell) trying to catch the bus. After getting hit by the bus's stop sign and door, he gets on and sits next to his friend Trey (Kevin Hart). It is shown they are taking a field trip to a research lab. In the research lab Rick meets Lou Landers (Christopher McDonald) who coughs up blood. Dr. Strom then introduces his 7 mutated dragonflies, though there are only 6 there. The escaped one bites Rick, and leaves a huge bump.

The scene then goes to Rick's house where his Aunt Lucille (Marion Ross) and Uncle Albert (Leslie Nielsen) are talking on the couch when Rick comes in. He goes up to his room followed by his uncle. His uncle shows him a book about a women's period on accident, and Rick falls asleep. Rick wakes up, to see his uncle beside him in bed. Then his uncle gets up while farting. Rick then gets up and checks in the mirror to see the bite is gone. He goes on his computer to research about it. After that, he looks out his window to Jill, in her bra. As she takes it off another bra appears. She then takes dental floss to make a thong. As his aunt calls to Rick, he tells her in a minute and rushes back to the window to see an old, fat man taking a shower. As he rushes to the other window, Jill has left. He then, rushes to the science fair. There he notices that little sticky spines are growing on his hand. Then while trying to take a drink of water, his hands get stuck on the fountain. He is able to pull the fountain off, but hits the bully Lance (Ryan Hansen), who is the nephew of Lou Landers. The two start a fight, causing pandemonium, and even knocking Stephen Hawking into a beehive and running into a teacher. He tries to take his hands off her breasts, but he ends up taking pieces of her shirt off (showing her bra). Rick then leaves the auditorium, and goes to an alleyway and climbs the wall (also break dancing on it and see's a cat run up the wall). He then sees an old woman about to be hit by a truck. He pushes the old lady out of the way and stops the truck. He is congratulated, but it turns out he pushed the old lady into a woodchipper. He then goes home and tells Trey, his aunt, and uncle of his powers. He then talks to the girl of his dreams Jill Johnson (Sara Paxton), who leaves with Lance in his car. This makes Rick want a car, and he sets out to get money from the bank. He then, tries to get money. In the bank gunshots are heard, and Rick races outside to see people surrounding something. He goes to see a monkey performing, but a man points to his uncle with his uncle lying on the ground. Uncle Albert has been shot. He is taken to the hospital, where he falls into a coma.

While walking on the streets the next day, Rick is met by Professor X (Tracey Morgan) who tells him he must learn how to fly and use his new superpowers. This makes Rick decide to become a superhero and make himself a suit, and he becomes known as the Dragonfly. Meanwhile, Lou Landers is showing off his new invention that will heal him of his sickness. While he uses it though, the machine breaks, and he is laughed at. Though he finds out that when he touches someone, he steals their life force, so he can live another day.

Now the Dragonfly is all over the news. He is criticized by Tom Cruise who says the Dragonfly can't even fly but he can. It then says on the news that Tom Cruise died in an attempt to prove that he was capable of flying. Meanwhile, Lou (now known as the Hourglass) is stealing Cerillium from Stephen Hawking's lab, as it will make him immortal. He starts a fight with the Dragonfly, and he ends up cutting him with little hourglass shurikens. The Hourglass then escapes.

Jill is then seen walking in an alleyway on the corner of "Oh" and "Shit" street, and is attacked by thugs, but the Dragonfly saves her. The two then try to kiss, but as Dragonfly tries to hang upside down from a ladder the ladder falls to her crotch. Jill lifts him up as he disappears and then appears right next to her. They then, kiss for the first time, and Jill thanks him. The scene then goes to a Thanksgiving dinner at Rick's house. Jill is invited over, and so are Lance and Lou. Rick soon arrives, almost being caught in his suit by Lou from Rick needing to go to the bathroom and peeing from the ceiling. While everyone is eating, Lou sees the scar on Rick's arm, and he and Lance leave, claiming that he went to the bathroom on himself. Some time later Jill and Rick pick up the dishes, while Aunt Lucille sleeps. They talk about how if Rick has seen Dragonfly, but are interrupted by his aunt's farts. They were so strong that it winds them. They put a scented candle near them, but his aunt farts and the flame erupts. All of a sudden Lou breaks through the wall of Rick's house, knocking Jill and him unconscious. Then takes his aunt as she screams and farts.

The scene then goes to the hospital where a doctor says that his Uncle has just woken from his coma, but his aunt has died. Rick and his Uncle the go to the funeral, where Albert embraces his love for Lucille, but it ends up being a hot, younger, dead woman. When the funeral is over, Rick tells Jill that he doesn't love her, and that he's taking her out of his Fave 5.

Lou then concocts a plan to make himself immortal, by killing thousands of people. Rick finds out where he plans on doing this, a convention of all races, right next to a comic con. Rick soon makes a fight erupt between everyone, while Lou escapes. Rick follows him and finds out the Hourglass is Lou. Hourglass and Dragonfly fight, and Hourglass throws one of his shurikens at Dragonfly's heart. Jill then jumps in the way of it, and it strikes her. Hourglass goes on the roof, with Dragonfly carrying Jill in hand. Dragonfly heals Jill, but the Hourglass throws an Hourglass bomb onto Dragonfly's crotch. Dragonfly then puts his crotch next to Landers face, which blows up, killing Landers. The resulting explosion though sends Jill off the roof. Dragonfly reaches her, and she finds out Dragonfly is Rick. Dragonfly then grows wings and the two fly to safety. On the roof are Stephen Hawking and Uncle Albert. Albert, Jill, and Rick go out for food, while Stephen Hawking accidently falls off the roof screaming "Oh Sh*t!". The scene then cuts to Dragonfly and Jill flying in the air, when they are hit by a helicopter.
